PATIENT INFORMATION

We provide therapy for people with problems in their hands and upper limb.

Making an Appointment

Consultations are available from Monday through Friday, by appointment.

No referral is necessary for hand therapy services unless the case is covered under Workers Compensation, Third Party Insurance or DVA. In this instance, please speak to your General Practitioner to request a referral.

If your condition is urgent, please inform the secretary and she will endeavor to organise you an appointment as soon as possible.

For your convenience, we send SMS reminders of the date and time of your appointment. If you are not able to attend your scheduled appointment, we require 24 hours notice or a cancellation fee may be charged.

Initial Consultation
Please be aware that your initial consultation will take 30-45 minutes. To help us determine your diagnosis and provide appropriate care, please bring all relevant X-rays, scans and test results, along with your Doctor’s referral (if you were provided with one), to your initial consultation.

Qualifications

Your hand therapist is qualified as either a Physiotherapist or an Occupational Therapist. It is possible that your private health fund will reimburse you different amounts depending on your treating therapist’s profession. Please discuss your level of cover with your insurer if you have any queries.

Your Appointment

Your hand therapist might discuss with you whether you would benefit from being fitted with a splint or cast, or be provided with other exercise equipment as part of your rehabilitation program. These items will be at an additional cost. It is likely that they will be custom-made and provided at the time of the consultation.

At the Hand Therapy Group, we will make every effort to ensure you see the same therapist for each appointment.  Occasionally this is not possible, but be assured that our comprehensive patient notes system will allow another therapist to take over your care if required.

Patient Log in

Patients are supplied with a personal login to our website, to access customised home programs and exercises.

Payment

Macquarie Hand Therapy, Norwest Hand Therapy and Pacific Hand Therapy provide HICAPS services –  the online system linking to your private health fund, providing instant reimbursement for a component of the consultation fee. Unfortunately, the HICAPS terminal does not allow us to always claim the cost of splints and aids, these items must be claimed directly with your health fund. Accounts for Mater Hand Therapy will be posted from our Macquarie Hand Therapy rooms. Please call 02 9812 3982 to organize credit card payment over the phone or pay by direct funds transfer.

We accept AMEX, Visa, MasterCard, Eftpos and cash. It is requested that all private accounts be settled on the day of your appointment.
