Wrist exercises can help to improve range of motion, stability and strength of your wrist. These may be appropriate after you have broken your wrist or developed a condition such as a tendonitis to help restore your wrist motion and function.
Active range of motion
Gently move your wrist in the different planes to feel a gentle stretch but no pain.
Strengthening
This could include using theraband and putty to build up the power in your hand and wrist.
Proprioception
This is the body’s awareness of where it is in space and the ability to adapt to external forces placed through the body. It does this through feedback from receptors in the skin, muscles and ligaments. Injuries to the wrist can directly damage those structures or they forget how to work properly due to being immobilised.
Your hand therapist will be able to design a program specific to your needs. If you have any questions regarding a condition you have or wish to book an appointment or feel free to contact us here. We’d be more than happy to help!
